Description

A (room-air dependent) fireplace draws all or part of the required combustion air from the room in which it is installed or from other internal rooms, which might be dangerous if a ventilation system or a stove extractor fan are operated simultaneously. By continuously drawing in air, these devices can create negative air pressure, which in turn changes the fireplace airflow direction. If the negative air pressure is strong enough, the toxic combustion gases are no longer vented through the chimney but may instead escape into the home. This can lead to serious illness or even fatal carbon monoxide poisoning. The risk can be reduced by making the fireplace independent of ambient air. However, this solution may not always be practical because of the structural restrictions on many fireplaces and tiled stoves. Fortunately, there is an easier option – our negative air pressure monitor, which disconnects the ventilation system in case of emergency.

The following conditions must be fulfilled for pressure-neutral operation:

  • An even number of Ambientika devices in the storey of the wood-burning stove
  • Sufficient overflow between the rooms: e.g. a 5 mm gap at the base of the door or an equivalent measure
  • A correct installation and setting which ensures synchronous operation

If the master unit is disconnected from the power circuit via the pressure switch in the event of an emergency, the slave units will automatically stop operating

The pressure switch can be installed in any room. The power supply to the ventilation units must be provided via the pressure monitor. One sensor hose must be led outdoors. The other sensor hose must be led into the room where the stove is located.

What does a low pressure warning device do?

A low pressure warning device is a device that monitors the pressure in a system and ensures that the pressure remains within a specified range. It is based on a simple principle: a system which is under pressure has air or gas flows which may fail under certain conditions. If this occurs, then the pressure in the system may rise or fall and may result in malfunctions or damage.

A low pressure warning device consists of a sensor that measures the pressure in the system and a switch that analyses the information from the sensor and carries out appropriate actions. If the pressure in the system falls below a certain threshold, the switch is activated and a signal is sent to a control device which switches the system off or issues a warning message. This ensures that no damage to the system occurs and that efficient operation is maintained.

What circumstances result in an urgent need for a low pressure warning device?

A low pressure warning device is particularly important under the following circumstances:

  1. In plants and systems which require a vacuum in order to function properly, such as vacuum tanks or vacuum pumps.
  2. In production processes in which a vacuum is essential, such as in the semiconductor industry or in the production of medical products.
  3. In areas in which hazardous or toxic vapours or gases may be released which may get into adjoining rooms in a vacuum.
  4. In waste disposal systems or biogas plants in which a vacuum may occur owing to the decomposition of organic material.
  5. In patient rooms in hospitals in which negative pressure is required in order to prevent the transfer of pathogenic germs.

In general, a low pressure warning device is always required if a vacuum is indicated as an essential state for a system or process and deviation from this may result in serious consequences.

Where is the low pressure warning device installed?

The low pressure warning device is generally installed near the exhaust air system or the ventilation system in order to measure the negative pressure in a room or a group of rooms. It can also be installed in rooms which potentially contain contaminated air, such as in medical facilities such as hospitals or laboratories. The exact place of installation depends on the specific application and requirements.

The device is housed in a plastic casing with external dimensions of 160x80x40 mm.

Ambientika solo+

359,00€

The SOLO model, suitable for single-room solutions, operates autonomously without requiring manual control. This model can be connected to the dew point control or radon measurement system. For living rooms, the other models with sensor technology are recommended, because these models can work more quietly due to the whisper-quiet night mode.
Tip: If the Solo+ units are coupled with the time delay module (accessory), the optimal effect of cross ventilation can be achieved.
