Getting Ambientika onto Wi-Fi – done in just a few minutes
An Ambientika system is made up of several devices that work together. That is why setup takes a few minutes longer than a single device – but it works with any router. Here is what matters.
Why isn't it as simple as a smart plug?

Talks only to the cloud
A smart plug sends its commands to the internet and back. It does not need to coordinate with any other device – connect and done.
The devices work together
For cross-ventilation the devices run in opposite directions: one pushes stale air out while another draws fresh air in – alternating. To do that, they have to "hear" each other on your Wi-Fi.
That is the reason for the one short extra step: you let your router allow the devices to talk to each other, once. It usually takes less than a minute – and in return you get real cross-ventilation instead of a single device. This works with any router.
Compatible with every router
Ambientika needs no special hardware and no particular provider. All it needs is for your router to allow two things – and practically every router and mesh system can.
A 2.4 GHz network
The devices communicate on the 2.4 GHz band. It has the greater range and still reaches the bathroom, basement and attic. Pure 5 GHz networks are not detected.
The devices may see each other
Your router must allow the devices to communicate with one another. So-called client or AP isolation has to be switched off for that.
Quick pre-check
Three things, and setup in the app goes smoothly.
- Your Wi-Fi broadcasts (also) on 2.4 GHz – on most routers this is the default.
- Client isolation is off – your Wi-Fi devices may communicate with each other.
- With a repeater or mesh system: note the model – it helps us if you need support.
- Your network name consists of letters and numbers only — a comma or a long dash in the name makes the setup fail.
The network name: letters and numbers only
One point that is easy to overlook and still lies behind many failed setups: the name of your Wi-Fi network. The picture is always the same — the app finds the devices during the scan without any trouble, and then, right at the very end, the configuration fails after all.
The reason is simple: the network name is handed over to the device during setup, and special characters break that handover. What we see most often is a comma or a long dash (–), and occasionally periods and slashes.
So our recommendation is a network name made up of letters and numbers only, for example LoftTechnik24. In the password, special characters are perfectly fine. And once the system is running, please leave the network name and password as they are — otherwise the devices have to be set up again.
How to find the setting in your router
Every router gets you there – the setting is just named a little differently depending on the maker. It is almost always in the Wi-Fi settings.
In your Wi-Fi settings, look for an option with one of these names and make sure the devices are allowed to communicate (isolation off):
In addition, the 2.4 GHz band should be active. With a mesh system, a separate 2.4 GHz network for your smart-home devices is ideal.

For corporate networks & IT (Ambientika OFFICE)
If the system runs on a corporate network, give your IT these requirements:
- A 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi (SSID), name made up of letters and numbers only. Pure 5/6 GHz networks are not detected.
- No client/AP isolation – the devices talk via UDP broadcast and must reach each other on the same subnet (do not filter broadcast/multicast).
- No captive portal / no forced login page on this SSID.
- A permanent outbound internet connection – time-scheduled guest access that switches off also stops control.
- Allow: destination IPs 185.214.203.87 and 213.20.175.56; ports 500 and 4521 (app) and 11000 (ventilation systems).
- Recommended: a dedicated IoT network/VLAN for the devices. A guest network works, provided client communication is allowed and it does not switch off on a schedule.
