Südwind – ventilation engineering from South Tyrol since 1966

Südwind is a family business in Eppan an der Weinstraße, South Tyrol, founded in 1966 by Bruno Saxalber. It began with ventilation and cooling for industry and agriculture; today we work on more than 1600 m² of factory space. Since 2001 we have been developing Ambientika, our own line of decentralised home ventilation. Design, electronics, software, testing and approvals come from us, and the units are manufactured in northern Italy.

That difference shows in everyday work. When a customer writes that something is not right, the message reaches the people who designed the unit. In 2021 a customer in Austria reported that his radio-controlled units were clashing with his smart home system on the same frequency. We replaced three indoor units with revised ones within a few days, free of charge, and then eliminated the cause in the series. A pure reseller cannot do that.

Tested, not claimed

Ambientika is tested by TÜV SÜD and acoustically measured according to IFT Rosenheim. The German Institute for Building Technology has granted general building authority approval (Z-51.3-482). The ceramic heat exchanger reaches building material class A1 and is therefore non-combustible. Behind every figure you read here there is a measurement.

What we develop ourselves

It is not only the units that carry our signature, but also the software around them: the Ambientika app, the MQTT bridge for Home Assistant, Apple Home, Google Home and Loxone, and the Local App for operation entirely without a cloud. Both are available open source and free of charge on GitHub, because we believe you should still be able to control your unit in ten years, independently of us. We are currently working on NeuraCell-X, a combination of radon protection and dew point control, patent pending.

Advice comes from the person who knows the unit

Your layout is not planned by a call centre. Send us a floor plan and engineer Martin Saxalber marks the units in it, defines the number, the positions and the core drilling diameters, and prepares the ventilation design on request. It costs nothing and commits you to nothing. We do it because a well planned system means less trouble, for you and for us.

We also stay reachable after the purchase. No service fee, no ticket number, and no need to explain who you are.
